JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTIBILITY: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the principal finance and administration officer and responsible for protecting the assets of the organization. The CFO will control financial administration, payroll, business planning, compliance, budgeting, and forecasting. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and other partner organizations. The CFO is responsible for spotting problems before they arise and protecting the organization from unexpected costs or revenue disruptions. The CFO will drive planning and managing organizational change in a rapidly growing non-profit industry.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration
  • Certified Public Accountant Required
  • Ten (10) years of management experience
  • Three (3) years of budget and forecast preparation/monitoring and financial reporting experience
  • Experience with utilization management, electronic data processing, financial reporting
  • High degree of integrity and honesty, along with a demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and neutrality in complex and sensitive situations.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • The CFO protects the assets of the organization.
  • Partner with the CEO on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the president based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis
  • Coordinate all compliance, regulatory filings, grant and contract management for the entire organization.
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the executive leadership team
  • Engage the leadership team to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections
  • Engage the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization;
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  • Participate in the development of the Agency's plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally
  • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and all Federal / State requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all internal and external financial reporting materials
  • Assist in the financial modeling and negotiation of agreements with funders, government agencies, contractors and other stakeholders
  • Oversee development and maintenance of related policies and procedures
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting
  • Ensure staff receive accurate pay on a timely basis and requisite reports are filed
  • Coordinate all audit activities
  • Oversees the supervision of the Fiscal staff. Mentors and develops Fiscal team, managing work allocation, training and development, and building an effective and efficient team dynamics
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for federal funders.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state and federal tax returns.
  • Oversee the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies.
  • Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
