About The Position

Match Charter Public School is a free, high-performing charter public school in Boston serving up to 1,250 students in PreK-12. Our mission is to prepare students, particularly multilingual learners and first-generation college aspirants, for success in college and careers, aiming for economic security and mobility. Students are admitted through a blind public lottery open to all Boston residents. The school community is diverse, with families representing over 20 countries and speaking over 20 languages at home; 98% of students are people of color. The school serves a diverse student body, with 23% qualifying for special education and 19% being English Language Learners. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, serving as a trusted advisor and providing leadership, direction, and management for the finances and administration of the School and its affiliated entities. This role offers a significant opportunity to support the School's mission for students in grades Pre-K through 12. The position is based at Match's Network Support Office in Jamaica Plain, Boston. The annual salary is $153,831, with potential for increase based on relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide strategic thinking for short-term and long-term organizational financial goals, objectives, policies, and practices in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership team.
  • Continuously analyze existing financial management systems, internal controls, and processes to ensure efficiency, compliance with policies and regulations, and adherence to nonprofit financial management best practices.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Finance and Audit Committee.
  • Translate the overall strategic vision into financial goals and plans with the leadership team.
  • Lead the accurate and timely preparation, analysis, and presentation of monthly and annual financial reports for stakeholders including school leaders, the board, and school lenders.
  • Lead oversight of a ~$40 million annual operating budget (estimated FY2027), directing the budget development process, current year projection updates, and long-range financial forecasting.
  • Drive fiscal accountability throughout the organization by setting clear expectations for budgeting and spending.
  • Oversee and direct accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Direct the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Lead the team responsible for government grant application, expense tracking, and compliance.
  • Continuously seek to improve and optimize internal infrastructure by fine-tuning processes and updating systems.
  • Direct, develop, and implement procedures and systems necessary for proper record-keeping, internal accounting controls, and services.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party vendors and auditing firms.
  • Oversee benefits and payroll administration, ensuring state and legal compliance of all human resources systems and processes for employees and contractors.
  • Partner with senior leadership on the development and implementation of compensation policies.
  • Work closely with the legal team on financial/HR and legal intersections, including contract development and risk management.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Human Resources Officer to address HR issues.
  • Provide strong day-to-day leadership, cultivating organizational values and fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaged work environment for a diverse team.
  • Manage a team of 3 direct reports in accounting, budgeting, grant compliance, financial reporting, and HR administration, ensuring high-quality and timely work.
  • Cultivate a team that communicates clear, relevant, and timely financial information across the organization, the Board, and the Finance Committee.
