About The Position

As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO serves as the organization's primary financial strategist and oversees all aspects of finance, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, investments, grant accounting, medical billing, contract management, and information technology operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability of the organization. The CFO also serves as Treasurer of the Foundation Board and provides financial guidance to leadership, management teams, board committees, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Fund accounting experience is required.
  • Previous supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial management.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, audits, grants management, and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and accounting software systems.

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Experience overseeing healthcare, behavioral health, social services, or medical billing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting and finance functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and grant accounting.
  • Develop and manage the agency's annual operating budget and program budgets.
  • Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and budget-to-actual results.
  • Prepare financial reports, analyses, forecasts, and recommendations for executive leadership and the Board.
  • Oversee annual audits, tax filings, cost reports, W-2s, and 1099 preparation.
  • Analyze financial trends and organizational performance to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, grant requirements, and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Recommend improvements to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Serve as liaison to auditors, financial institutions, insurers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare grant budgets and oversee submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reports.
  • Oversee medical billing operations and provider credentialing with Medicaid and private insurance companies.
  • Ensure billing and reimbursement activities meet auditing and compliance standards.
  • Provide executive oversight of the organization's IT operations and vendor relationships.
  • Supervise IT personnel and technology service contracts.
  • Lead implementation and annual review of the agency's IT and Cybersecurity Plans.
  • Evaluate and implement financial and operational software solutions.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board.
  • Support investment management activities in collaboration with the Finance Committee.
  • Present financial reports and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Support strategic planning, capital improvement projects, and organizational growth initiatives.
