About The Position

The Chief Estimator is responsible for managing the overall bid process for estimating concrete projects that are assigned to the Concrete Division. They will be responsible for pursuing projects throughout their pre-proposal and proposal cycle. The Chief Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed estimates of concrete projects to include labor, equipment and material fabrication costs. They must have a good understanding of concrete processes and materials, as well as experience in developing accurate cost estimates. They are responsible for maintaining Building Connected bid invitations, creating bid invites to vendors & suppliers, updating bid information and submitting proposal through Building Connected portal or other websites, as required. The Chief Estimator works closely with the Business Unit Leader, General Superintendent, Safety Department, and Quality Manager to develop bid strategies, resource availability, vendor relationships, safety requirements, quality requirement and project schedules, in order to provide a comprehensive estimate. He or she is responsible for updating the bid logs in Mondays.com, Steel Division folders, Bid Status log in excel as well as other logs or other related documents required to be maintained. Must have a good understanding of erection requirements and procedures to be able to provide accurate cost estimates associated with crane selection, rigging, bracing and general erection of structural and miscellaneous steel. The ability to travel to project sites for preconstruction and construction visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or a minimum of ten years’ experience in the construction industry.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the commercial concrete industry.
  • Knowledge of design principles and engineering specifications related to concrete.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and other technical documents.
  • Understanding basic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Proficiency in using software programs related to concrete design and estimation (e.g., Tekla, E-Takeoff, Sage, Stack).
  • Experienced with Construction Scheduling.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work with other team members to ensure accuracy and efficiency in projects.
  • Ability to travel to project sites for preconstruction and construction visits.
  • Must be an energetic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a team environment, as well as a passion for collaboration and professional development.
  • Ability to accurately estimate the cost of materials and labor.
  • Deep knowledge of materials and labor costs.
  • Ability to calculate the amount of time and resources necessary to complete the project.
  • Ability to analyze a project from start to finish, identify potential problems and develop strategies for overcoming them.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other professionals involved in the project, such as architects and engineers.
