The Chief Engineer will manage plant maintenance personnel, ensuring machinery and support systems operate at maximum efficiency. This role oversees the preventive maintenance (PM) program and schedule, as well as the “Red Tag” program to monitor adherence to food safety goals through maintenance, sanitation, and quality verification steps for all maintenance work performed in food safety risk areas. The Chief Engineer will maintain a good working relationship with all other departments, oversee training and cross-training of mechanics in performing a wide range of mechanical and electrical repairs, and assist with training efforts as needed. This position requires coming in during off shifts for breakdowns and availability to be contacted during off hours. The Chief Engineer will oversee the completion of project jobs from preparing BOM lists to completed jobs, ensuring all mechanics, visitors, contractors, and employees on the assigned shift follow Company and OSHA rules relating to safety, GMPs, security, and PPE policies and guidelines. They will also ensure all mechanics follow EPA rules and regulations, administer disciplinary action as needed, and oversee the isolation of repetitive line problems, working with line leaders, supervisors, and managers to find solutions. Communication of pertinent issues in a timely manner and notification of the Quality Assurance Manager of any potential food safety risks are critical. The Chief Engineer will oversee the scheduling of work for all maintenance personnel on the shift and communicate and administer all Company policies and procedures consistently.
