Chief Engineer (Hotel Maintenance)
About The Position
The Chief Engineer manages general and preventative maintenance functions to ensure guest service and sustainability standards are achieved and maintained throughout the hotel. This role leads and supports associates, coordinates vendor bids and contracts, oversees small projects and Property Improvement Plans, and performs or supervises a range of building repairs and equipment troubleshooting. The Chief Engineer also maintains preventative maintenance records and life safety systems, coordinates service-contract compliance, ensures work meets applicable codes, and maintains the building exterior and curb appeal in accordance with EarthView sustainability guidelines. The position follows safe work practices and supports guest satisfaction.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory engineer or maintenance experience, or equivalent training, is required.
- HVAC certification is required.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma and/or trade school coursework in a related field is preferred.
- Additional certifications may be required based on local needs.
Responsibilities
- Interview, select, train, schedule, coach, and support associates to ensure they perform in accordance with brand standards and HHM core values.
- Manage and coordinate bids, quotes, and contracts for third-party vendors.
- Oversee small projects and Property Improvement Plans (PIPs), and report on work progress.
- Perform and oversee repairs including sheetrock repair, painting, furniture refinishing, and replacement of electrical and plumbing fixtures.
- Troubleshoot kitchen equipment and repair heating and cooling pumps.
- Install and program televisions.
- Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance on all rooms and equipment.
- Test and maintain life safety systems to ensure they are 100% operational.
- Coordinate compliance of service contracts and ensure work meets local, state, and federal codes.
- Maintain the building exterior and curb appeal while following EarthView sustainability guidelines.
- Practice safe work habits in accordance with MSDS and OSHA standards while working to increase guest satisfaction scores.
