About The Position

The Chief Engineer leads the facility engineering team within JLL's State of Tennessee account and serves as the working supervisor responsible for the quality, progress, and results of the team's work. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with day-to-day leadership, including coaching performance, coordinating activities, resolving operating problems, and ensuring equipment reliability and service quality across assigned facilities. The Chief Engineer helps protect client assets, manage engineering budgets, and drive the maintenance strategy that keeps facilities operating safely and efficiently in support of operational excellence and client satisfaction.

The position is on-site in Nashville, Tennessee. The stated work schedule is 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility and an on-call rotation. The position does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of related building engineering experience, including prior work as a Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or in a similar role.
• Universal CFC EPA certification.
• Comprehensive understanding of building-engineering processes, systems, and procedures sufficient to supervise delivery and perform technical work.
• Readiness for staff supervision, performance coaching, and quality review, demonstrated through prior leadership experience or assessed development assignments.
• Experience preparing and managing an engineering operating budget, forecasting costs, and explaining variances.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, use ladders up to 30 feet tall, and frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and/or drive.
• On-site presence is required.
• Must hold and maintain licenses, training, and certifications appropriate to assigned work.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Nice To Haves

• Trade school education, union training, military service, or college coursework in a related field.
• Experience developing contractor scopes, evaluating proposals, and verifying contractor performance against procurement requirements.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, including the ability to present technical risks and corrective plans clearly to clients and property management.
• Ability to coordinate resources with related teams and provide clear technical guidance and feedback to team members.
• Experience analyzing recurring failures, backlog, and service issues to select appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the facility engineering team, provide day-to-day coaching, set expectations, and oversee maintenance quality, progress, and results.
• Maintain the facility’s preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance program, and perform or directly support technical troubleshooting and restoration work as needed.
• Develop and manage the engineering operating budget, including cost forecasting, variance analysis, and prioritized capital and major repair recommendations.
• Define contractor scopes, evaluate proposals, and manage contractor performance through technical completion and closeout.
• Lead engineering response and communications during failures or service disruptions, keeping the team and stakeholders informed about status, risks, and follow-up actions.
• Support hiring, onboarding, and employee development, and set technical, safety, and operational training priorities for the team.
• Coordinate activities and resources with related teams and regional leadership to achieve shared objectives and client commitments.
