About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility's refrigeration systems, material handling equipment, and maintaining all aspects of facility infrastructure and grounds. This role involves training and managing maintenance personnel, scheduling and managing facility projects, and training employees on safety and regulatory compliance. The Chief Engineer must be available on call 24/7/365, participate in an Emergency Response Team, and establish a high level of professionalism to foster collaboration and problem-solving with various stakeholders. Additionally, the role includes supervising contractors and approving contractor bills for payment.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Must pass Emergency Response Physical (Lung Capacity and Auditory Testing are conducted annually)
Minimum of 5 years experience in maintenance and operation of industrial refrigeration systems
Minimum of 2 years experience in a senior position
Strong knowledge in federal and state regulatory compliance programs including but not limited to OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Programs
Working knowledge of the public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) industry
Working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems (e.g. anhydrous ammonia)
Working knowledge of the functions of various material handling equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet jacks, lead acid batteries, battery chargers, etc.)
Knowledge of capital and major repair budgeting
Ability to read and understand blue prints and P&IDs
Knowledge of refrigeration control systems, microprocessors, and asset management systems (e.g. Infor EAM)
Knowledge of mechanics and mechanical skills
Bend and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
Lift up to 70lbs occasionally with assistance
Work in a temperature range from +50°F to -30°F with moderate noise levels
Stand and walk for extended periods of time
Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls
Be able to speak and hear for safety and productivity
Use scanners, tablets, radio, phones, and other warehouse machinery
Ability to lift overhead
Ability to work overtime is an essential part of this position due to demand
Drive a registered motor vehicle to satisfy daily requirements
Have acceptable and / or correctable vision
Personal interaction and communication required to and from other people is extremely high
Good arithmetic and reading skills
Understand and follow verbal instruction, written instruction and company policies
A self-starter that can work independently and coordinate with others
Work in a fast pace environment with the ability to manage stress and productivity guidelines
