About The Position

The Chief Engineer is the senior technical authority for the Jaunt Cargo aircraft program and is accountable for the overall technical integrity, safety, performance, and certification readiness of the aircraft. This role owns the aircraft-level architecture, technical governance, and engineering execution across all subsystems, ensuring alignment with program objectives, regulatory requirements, and business goals. The Chief Engineer provides unified technical leadership across airframe, propulsion, hybrid power, avionics, communications, flight controls, flight sciences, systems engineering, safety, and certification, serving as the final technical decision-maker for the program.

Requirements

  • Minimum 20 years' total engineering experience
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in aircraft or advanced aerospace system development
  • Demonstrated experience serving as Chief Engineer, Technical Director, or equivalent senior technical authority on complex aircraft programs
  • Deep familiarity with aircraft systems integration
  • Deep familiarity with certification frameworks (FAA, EASA, or equivalent)
  • Deep familiarity with ARP4754A / ARP4761 principles
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering organizations and make high-impact technical decisions
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Ability to work and communicate well with other employees and management, customers, visitors, vendors.
  • Ability to perform work utilizing manual dexterity of the hands
  • Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, reach above and below shoulders, and full use of upper extremities
  • Ability to read, write, and understand French
  • Correctable vision and hearing.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the aircraft-level technical architecture, including system decomposition, functional allocation, and interface definitions.
  • Establish and control the aircraft configuration baseline.
  • Serve as the final technical authority for design decisions, trade studies, and technical risk acceptance.
  • Ensure end-to-end integration across all aircraft subsystems, including airframe and structures, drive systems and propulsion, hybrid power and EPDS, avionics, communications, and GCS, flight control systems and autonomy, and flight sciences and performance.
  • Resolve cross-disciplinary technical issues and integration conflicts.
  • Ensure subsystem designs collectively satisfy aircraft-level requirements.
  • Chair and approve outcomes of all major aircraft-level design reviews, including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
  • Establish technical entry and exit criteria for each program phase.
  • Approve system-level interfaces, design changes, and configuration updates.
  • Ensure aircraft design aligns with safety objectives and certification strategy.
  • Oversee coordination between engineering, systems engineering, and safety teams.
  • Support and participate in FHA, PSSA, and SSA reviews, certification planning and regulatory engagement.
  • Serve as senior technical representative to aviation authorities as required.
  • Represent the engineering organization to executive leadership, customers and partners, and regulatory authorities.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support program planning and milestone readiness assessments.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineering leadership and discipline leads.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of technical rigor, safety, and accountability.
