About The Position

The Chief Engineer plays a key role in overseeing, coordinating and assisting the activities of the maintenance staff at the hotel(s) within the designated area. Ensures repair, maintenance and engineering activities and the preventative maintenance program are completed as directed and supports or monitors capital repair and renovation projects.

Requirements

  • Technical/Trade school certification or equivalent in related field.
  • A minimum six (6) years of experience in facilities maintenance, plant operations, or engineering services for a hotel or hotels.
  • A minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in related field required.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification.
  • CPR/AED Certification (Adult, Infant, and Child Rescue).
  • Universal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in English and interact successfully with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and professionally communicates with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ensures all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies are corrected.
  • Responsible for the safety of the department and building.
  • Administers the preventative maintenance program as required, properly completing work orders on time.
  • Completes training regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines; and conducts training of co-workers and subordinates as required.
  • Meets with vendors and suppliers to discuss the scope of, and products and materials used in, repair activities.
  • Obtains pricing and bids, or develops cost estimates as directed.
  • Supervises and assists engineering team in maintaining and repairing safety systems, room equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, pool equipment, lighting, laundry equipment and other systems/equipment as directed.
  • Manages or assists in hiring, firing, training, assisting with career development and performance evaluations for maintenance team.
  • Performs skilled repair and maintenance operations using power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, etc.
  • Monitors tool inventories.
  • Monitors supplies, places orders with approved vendors as needed.
  • Maintains working spaces in safe and clean condition.
  • Responsible for Manager on Duty Shifts
  • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with Company standards; wears the appropriate uniform or attire.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with team members and management.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Adheres to established safety and emergency procedures and protocols, this includes Company, federal, and state specific regulations and guidelines.
  • Completes all required Company training/compliance courses as assigned.
  • Adheres to Company standards and maintains compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Determines and creates policies, procedures, and manuals for direct reports.
  • Establishes objectives and goals for the team.
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews work; evaluates direct report's performance.
  • Recruits and interviews.
  • Orientates and trains.
  • Issues corrective action and makes recommendations for termination.
  • Investigates and resolves concerns and complaints.
  • Creates department work schedules.
  • Approves time records and time off requests.
  • Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Develops and oversees the department's budget.
  • Ensures accurate and efficient management of inventory.
