About The Position
Genesis Marine is a company that provides marine transportation services, primarily serving refineries and storage terminals along various coastlines and river systems in the United States. The company owns and operates two fleets, inland and offshore, comprising approximately 130 vessels. Genesis Marine emphasizes safety, reliability, and efficiency in its operations, adhering to strict procedures that exceed customer and regulatory requirements. The company operates a state-of-the-art fleet, including barges, push-boats, offshore boats, barges, and an ocean-going tanker, with significant design capacity for different marine operations.
Requirements
- Ability to read and write English
- Ability to render, understand and react to commands given in English.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Must possess a U.S. Merchant Mariner’s document and a STCW training and certification booklet, as required by law.
- Must possess the proper license by the U.S.C.G. for the type, horsepower and service of the vessel to which he/she is assigned.
Responsibilities
- Operating and maintaining the engine room and other mechanical systems and equipment aboard the vessel to which he/she is assigned and its tow, for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and its tow.
- Ensuring compliance with flag state and classification society regulations, the seaworthiness of the vessel, the safety of the crew, and protection of the environment.
- Managing operational and maintenance administration and paperwork.
- Controlling costs and supervising the crew, including on-the-job training.
- Safe operation and routine maintenance of the vessel’s propulsion, auxiliary and other mechanical systems in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, Company policies and procedures, and manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Loading and storing of bunkers, lubricating oils and transferring of bunkers and oils to the tow or other vessels.
- Storage and management of bilge and bilge slops in accordance with Company procedures and in a manner responsible to the safety of the crew and the protection of the natural environment.
- Operational management of the vessel’s human resources, consumable spares, mechanical stores and tools inventories, including cost management.
- Setting and standing engine room watches in rotation with other members in the vessel crew.
- Directing and supervising the engine room crew in the execution of their duties.
- Maintaining courteous and professional relationships with service vendor representatives.
- Completing appropriate engine room management and human resource administrative tasks.
