Chief Engineer - Aerodynamics (Modeling & Simulation)

Cadillac Formula 1 TeamIndianapolis, IN

About The Position

Fueled by bold ambition, this role aims to maximize the probability that aerodynamic performance is delivered to the racetrack by transforming how simulation, modeling, and data are used across the aerodynamic development cycle. This role provides technical leadership and strategic direction for aerodynamic modeling and simulation, ensuring that our development tools (CFD/wind tunnel), methods, and metrics are predictive, aligned, and effective in driving on-track performance. The position will own the effectiveness of aerodynamic simulation and modeling in delivering track performance, increase the “hit rate” of aerodynamic developments reaching the car, and define and evolve the simulation strategy across CFD, wind tunnel, and track domains, enhancing computational and physical modeling capabilities. It will also improve confidence in development decisions through better correlation, metrics, and data usage, strengthen decision-making frameworks across the development cycle, increase reliability and predictive capability of aerodynamic tools, and align CFD, wind tunnel, and track data into a coherent development system. The role requires partnering across Aerodynamics, Vehicle Performance, Data Science, and Trackside Engineering, and communicating clear insights, risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Highly innovative and creative, with a deep understanding of race car aerodynamics and typical flow characteristics and behaviours
  • Strong understanding of the Formula 1® Technical Regulations
  • Experience in leading, managing and directly contributing to aerodynamic development across all areas of the car
  • Strong experience in state-of-the-art CFD/Wind Tunnel/Track aerodynamic testing approaches and methodologies
  • Ambitious and self-motivating with the ability to motivate and extract maximum potential from others
  • Well versed with CFD and 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA)
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to line manage/lead teams effectively
  • Clear and concise communication, verbally and written, including with key stakeholders and directors
  • Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture
  • Successful candidates must either be a U.S. Person (defined by U.S. law as U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
  • Additional security checks may be required as part of the recruitment process. This may include a background check covering a minimum of the past five years and a criminal record check.
