About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PACCSM) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is seeking a full-time faculty at the Associate Professor and Professor levels, in the appointment stream and with tenure for the position of Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PACCSM). PACCSM supports active basic and clinical research programs in asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, sleep disorders, ILD, and ARDS/ALI, and fellowship training at major teaching hospitals, UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, the Oakland VA Medical Center, and UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Requirements

  • MD/DO or equivalent degree.
  • Board certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
  • Eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Research interest in Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine.
  • Outstanding credentials and a record of academic accomplishments and executive leadership capacity.
  • Outstanding credentials and a record of academic achievement, national engagement, and a distinction as a clinician, educator, and investigator with considerable scientific stature and strong evidence of scholarship.
  • Academic credentials and achievements should meet qualifications for appointment as a full professional or senior associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
  • Successful administrative leadership experience in an academic health center and/or research institution.
  • Recognized clinical expertise in an area of Pulmonology and formative leadership experience to enhance the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Division.
  • Successful track record of recruiting and developing faculty (clinicians, clinician scientists, full-time scientists).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit a diverse staff at all levels.
  • For Associate Professor: five or more years of experience in related scientific research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
  • For Professor: five to seven years as Associate Professor. Attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning and the achievement of effective teaching skills. Superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and administrative leadership for the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine.
  • Oversees clinical operations, quality of care, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Sets the vision for pulmonary services.
  • Manages division budgeting and compensation.
  • Leads credentialing and privileges processes.
  • Fosters a culture of academic excellence through research, grant writing, and contributions to medical education, including resident and fellowship training programs.
  • Oversight of peer review.
  • Policy development in collaboration with nursing and hospital administration.
  • Active participation on medical staff committees.
  • Direct patient care responsibilities as needed.
