About The Position

Brown & Brown is seeking a Chief Data Officer (CDO) to join their growing team. This senior executive role is responsible for defining, building, and scaling the enterprise-wide data strategy. The CDO will develop the vision, strategy, and execution plan for a modern data platform, establish an analytics workbench, and ensure the organization’s data foundation is robust, trusted, and ready to support AI-enabled capabilities. An AI-first mentality is crucial, anticipating how data will fuel emerging AI use cases and preparing the enterprise for advancements in automation, intelligence, and decisioning. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with a business enablement mindset, translating data capabilities into measurable value, operational efficiency, and improved customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data, analytics, engineering, or related fields.
  • 5+ years in a senior executive or CDO-level role.
  • Proven success building and scaling enterprise data platforms and modern data architectures.
  • Deep expertise in data governance, data engineering, analytics enablement, and strong familiarity with AI/ML concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment with a strong bias for action.
  • Strong business acumen with a track record of enabling measurable business value through data.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and champion an enterprise-wide data strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Establish a forward-looking perspective on how data will enable and scale AI across the organization.
  • Promote a culture that values data quality, accessibility, and responsible use.
  • Partner with business leaders to translate data capabilities into tangible value.
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact data initiatives across operations, product, and customer experience.
  • Ensure the data strategy aligns with business strategy, regulatory requirements, and market dynamics.
  • Own and mature the enterprise data governance framework, ensuring data quality, compliance, security, and ethical use.
  • Establish policies, standards, and operating models that support trusted, well-managed data across the organization.
  • Lead high-performing teams across data architecture, data engineering, and platform engineering.
  • Define architectural standards that ensure scalability, interoperability, and resilience.
  • Collaborate with technology and business leaders to ensure data capabilities meet evolving needs.
  • Ensure the data ecosystem is optimized to support AI and machine learning initiatives led by other teams.
  • Anticipate future AI requirements and proactively evolve data structures, pipelines, and governance.
  • Evaluate emerging data and AI technologies to keep the organization ahead of the curve.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CITO and executive leadership on data-driven opportunities.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment, adoption, and measurable outcomes.
  • Inspire and mentor teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
