About The Position

Responsible for the Accounting and Finance Department for Freedom Financial Holdings, and The Freedom Bank of Virginia’s (“FDVA” or the “Bank”) day-to-day activities with respect to the Bank’s general accounting systems, internal and external financial reporting, enterprise-wide control environment, timely/accurate payment processing, and timely/accurate payroll processing, and processing of stock based compensation to include restricted shares grants, vesting, and forfeitures. The CAO manages a department of four or five staff to accomplish the same.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Efficient and effective in conducting research to cite authoritative accounting guidance for various positions taken within the Bank.
  • Familiar with corporate taxation, including, but not limited to, effective tax rate calculations, quarterly tax provision calculations, conducting state nexus studies, and general tax mitigation strategies.
  • Familiar with payroll withholding taxes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and maintenance of all general ledger accounts within the consolidated entity.
  • Ensuring that loan reconciliations are prepared/reviewed timely and appropriately archived.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget, forecasting, and subsequent reporting process.
  • Reviewing all financial reporting to be filed with third party entities.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including, but not limited to: Call Report, Periodic Equity Reports/Forms 4, 5, Earnings Release/10Q, Annual Report/10K, State and Federal Tax Filings, Regulatory filings with Federal Reserve, Regulatory filings with State Corporation Commission.
  • Implementing and maintaining an enterprise-wide risk-based control environment within the Bank.
  • Collaborating with all departments of the Bank to ensure that adequate controls are in place and that they are being appropriately documented.
  • Writing and updating procedures.
  • Responding to external and internal audit requests and maintaining the necessary documentation.
  • Regular attendance of various internal committee meetings including, but not limited to Board, Risk & Audit Committee, Pricing and Investment Committee, CECL Committee, Board ALCO, and other meetings as required.
  • Ensuring timely preparation of committee documentation and thorough review of committee packages prior to attendance.
  • Managing/communicating with state and local taxing authorities.
  • Overseeing the staff responsible for preparation of financial reports used in Asset/Liability Management Operations.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Recording and settling borrowings, investment purchases and sales and interfacing with Deposit Ops and the Wire Room when necessary to move money.
