About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Development, this part-time, in-person role involves planning and facilitating an extracurricular chess course for elementary, middle, and high school students. The teacher will develop a curriculum covering various chess topics, apply learned skills to prepare students for competition, and model appropriate academic and social behaviors.

Requirements

• Ability to work with students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, academic profiles, and skill levels.
• Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Must demonstrate responsibility, a desire to help others, discretion, and flexibility.
• Knowledge of basic academic content and skills.
• Application of such knowledge and tools to help students access material.
• Ability to collect and analyze data to drive future instruction.
• Ability to work independently applying critical thinking skills and problem solving to various situations.
• Must possess a bachelor's degree
• Have extensive knowledge of chess

Responsibilities

• Meets regularly with the Director of Educational Development
• Plans and facilitates instructional sessions
• Develop a curriculum that covers a variety of chess topics including movement, strategy, and gameplay
• Apply the skills and knowledge covered in the course to work towards a chess competition
• Models appropriate academic and social behaviors
• Performs other duties as assigned
