About The Position

Chess Wizards is seeking enthusiastic, reliable instructors to join their after-school enrichment program in San Antonio, TX. This role is ideal for individuals who love chess, enjoy working with children, and can make learning fun while creating a positive classroom environment. The position involves teaching chess fundamentals to elementary students, promoting good sportsmanship, and managing a classroom with confidence. Instructors will use a structured curriculum and follow school safety protocols. This is a side-hustle opportunity with flexible hours, teaching a minimum of 1 and up to 5 classes per week. Classes are scheduled on weekday afternoons, typically between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM at various local schools. Mileage reimbursement is provided for trips over 15 miles one way. The position is designated for the Fall season, with interviews conducted for sessions starting in late summer/early fall.

Requirements

  • Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
  • Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
  • Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
  • Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
  • Strong grasp of chess fundamentals, including piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics.
  • Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life problem-solving.
  • Reliable personal transportation and the ability to drive between locations.
  • Availability on weekday afternoons, with class start times falling within the 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM window, to teach 1–5 classes per week.
  • Commitment to implementing school safety protocols.
  • Strong punctuality and time-management skills.
  • Must be currently residing in the San Antonio, TX area or willing to relocate at own expense.
  • Resume detailing relevant experience.
  • Completion of a required questionnaire.
