About The Position

This is a Full-Time, 1st shift position for a Chemotherapy Technician in the Hematology/Oncology Outpatient department at the Winston Campus. The role involves completing area-specific work according to standard processes and procedures, serving as an expert with equipment and technology, and problem-solving technical issues. The technician will ensure accurate and timely documentation, support communication with patients and the care team, identify quality improvement opportunities, and contribute to operational changes and standardization. The position also requires participation in specialized work teams and committees, compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and staying current with advancements in the specialized field. The technician will collaborate with department leadership on best practices, maintain updated knowledge and skills, and contribute to the education of others. They will also support pharmacy department initiatives and accept assignments from other pharmacy teammate roles when workload dictates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities- an associate’s degree in pharmacy technology is required.
  • Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements.
  • Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT).
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Organizational skills and analytical ability to prepare reports and reconcile reports correctly
  • Ability to evaluate and measure customer needs – set clear standards to ensure needs are met
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Self-discipline and attention to detail
  • Working PC knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet, and general Call Center Systems

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.
  • One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
  • Strong background in medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes area-specific work as outlined by standard processes, procedures and adherent to policies

  • Keeps current with changes in the specialized field and collaborates with department leadership to adopt best practices
