About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. The position provides mentored undergraduate research experience in computational and theoretical chemistry, with assignments involving literature review, data organization, scientific computing support, and preparation of research materials.

  • Current UND undergraduate student in Chemistry or a closely related STEM field
  • Eligible for UND student employment; ability to work up to 20 hours/week beginning July 1, 2026
  • Basic computer skills
  • Successful completion of relevant introductory chemistry coursework.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or interest in physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, quantum chemistry, chemical physics, mathematics, physics, or computer science.
  • Experience with Python, Linux/Unix, spreadsheets, plotting, or literature searches; prior research, coursework project, or laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with computational chemistry and research-support tasks under supervisor guidance, carrying out quantum chemistry computations, literature review, and preparing presentations of the data and data analysis
  • Conduct literature searches and prepare short summaries of relevant papers, methods, and background information for ongoing lab projects
  • Participate in lab meetings, training, outreach, and other related research-support tasks assigned by the supervisor
