About The Position

Responsible for performing technical and specialized work in conjunction with chemical analyses. This role involves conducting special tests, sampling operations, and analyses in accordance with standardized chemical and radiochemical analyses, temperatures, pressures and flows to the required accuracy. The technician will analyze data and calculate test results for reports and system chemistry to maintain optimal conditions. Calibration checks and procedures for laboratory instruments, radiochemical instruments, and in-line process analyzers are also key responsibilities, along with performing or requesting preventive and corrective maintenance. The position requires successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test and a physical abilities assessment. The role also involves planning and completing scheduled activities, supporting other personnel, maintaining equipment and work areas, assisting in training, supporting emergency response, and performing all duties safely and in compliance with company policies. Continuous upgrading of knowledge and skills is expected.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Two years' experience, with a minimum of 2 years in the respective specialty, and 1 year of related technical training.
  • Experience is generally gained through a progression that includes two years as Junior Chemical Technician.
  • Successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test is required for this position.
  • A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
  • Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and specialized work activities, including analysis, instrument calibration, instrument maintenance, instrument troubleshooting, documentation and implementing corrective action for out of limits, and adversely trending data.
  • Conduct special tests, sampling operations, and analyses in accordance with standardized chemical and radiochemical analyses, temperatures, pressures and flows to the required accuracy.
  • Analyze data and calculate test results for reports and system chemistry, as needed based on analysis results, to maintain system chemistry in optimal conditions.
  • Perform calibration checks and calibration procedures for laboratory instruments, radiochemical instruments, and in-line process analyzers and document all checks and procedures as required.
  • Perform, or request (via plant work order process) preventive and corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Plan and complete scheduled activities on time and support other personnel in group to complete their activities.
  • Lead and direct other technicians, when required, to obtain satisfactory work results.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition and clean equipment, tools and work areas after job completion.
  • Assist in the proper training of other employees in the thorough, safe and timely completion of assigned tasks, as required.
  • Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization, HAZMAT response organization, and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned, and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
  • Perform all duties, and work with other employees in a safe manner, in compliance with appropriate company safety policies and rules.
  • Assume responsibility for continuously upgrading knowledge and skill.
