About The Position

Georgia Military College is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Chemistry Instructor to join our faculty in Milledgeville, GA. This full-time, in-person position involves teaching both the lecture and lab for undergraduate chemistry courses to a diverse student population. The primary focus is on student success and preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions or entry into the workforce. The successful faculty member will be required to teach a minimum of three laboratory classes in each of the 4 academic quarters each year. The faculty member will have the option of teaching during the summer quarter, when classes are available, for additional compensation. The contract is renewable on a yearly basis upon availability of classes and satisfactory job performance. Candidates who meet the qualifications below and have previous and military experience will be given preference during the selection process. Online courses may become part of the workload, but the job is primarily face-to-face.

Requirements

  • A Masters degree in Chemistry or a Masters degree and 18sh or 30qh of graduate course work in Chemistry.
  • Two or more years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in setting up labs
  • Must be willing to teach in a face-to-face classroom/lab environment at GMC’s Main Campus in Milledgeville, GA
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate effectively to a diverse student population.
  • Competence in using instructional technology and the Canvas learning management system.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Applicant must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses.
  • Applicants should enjoy a close-knit work environment, working as a team with their peers, and be willing to participate in faculty development throughout the year.
  • Previous and military experience will be given preference.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, face-to-face lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions for undergraduate chemistry courses.
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise course content, materials, and methods of instruction to ensure they meet academic and institutional standards.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade student assignments, quizzes, and exams in a timely manner, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support, advise students on course selection and career goals, and foster an effective learning environment.
  • Ensure student safety and proper protocols are followed in laboratory settings, including the appropriate use of lab equipment.
  • Maintain the chemistry prep room and chemical storage facility in a safe and organized manner.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide meetings and committees, and engage in professional development activities to stay current with scientific advancements and pedagogical methods.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student attendance, grade records, and other required documentation.
