Chemistry Adjunct Faculty
About The Position
Onondaga Community College, a college within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is seeking Adjunct Chemistry instructors for day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments. The Mathematics & Natural Sciences Department specifically needs instructors qualified to teach CHE-121: Intro Chemistry, CHE-151: Basic Chem Hlth I, and CHE-171: General Chemistry I. Adjunct instructors are responsible for developing their own course materials, such as lecture notes, assignments, quizzes, and exams, under the guidance of departmental faculty, and must adhere to college-approved course outlines. A typical teaching load may include a lecture section meeting multiple times a week and associated laboratory sections.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalency.
- Master's degree in a related discipline that includes 18 hours of graduate chemistry coursework.
- Computer skills including knowledgeable use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in oral and written communications.
- Ability to generate high-quality classroom materials.
- Ability to clearly and engagingly present information.
- Ability to lead class activities and facilitate student learning.
- Leadership abilities to guide students in hands-on, design, or technology management in the laboratory setting.
- Commitment to student success and academic excellence.
Nice To Haves
- Experience teaching at the community college level.
- Experience working with diverse populations of students, especially underrepresented students.
- Bilingual in English & Spanish.
- Proficiency in another language besides English.
Responsibilities
- Teach lecture or laboratory components of chemistry courses.
