About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Chemist with the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory. The Chemist will be responsible for processing and analyzing non-patient samples as assigned in compliance with the Clean Water Act (CWA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Wastewater, EPA/FDA RadioChem, or other methods determined by the department supervisor. This position will also compare analytical results with reference standards and form logical conclusions; systematically arrange information, assess results, data, instrument performance, and report data as required in a legally defensible manner. Determine laboratory instruments' reliability and make necessary adjustments; analyze information, methods, and procedures to determine the best analysis to perform; versatile to perform several procedures simultaneously using various equipment; and all knowledge, skills, and abilities required. The Chemist will also communicate with clients or public health partners to ensure an understanding of test methods, results, and response actions needed and comply with regulatory Quality Assurance requirements in a timely and efficient manner and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
  • Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
