About The Position

The Lab/Facility Chemist performs chemical analyses of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to determine compliant treatment and disposal, using a variety of analytical techniques and instruments. The role analyzes environmental samples for organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions (WIs). It also identifies chemical content in materials, conducts research on appropriate treatment studies, and provides technical knowledge to help develop formulas, enhance or create processes, and solve technical problems. The Chemist prepares samples and analytical standards, operates and sequences instruments, processes data, performs basic instrument maintenance and repairs as needed, and maintains required documentation. The role validates testing methods, demonstrates capability before reporting data and annually for each method, and applies relevant quality-control measures and calculations. SOPs and work instructions are developed with supervision from the Laboratory Manager. The Chemist also maintains a clean and safe work environment and performs other related duties as assigned.
