About The Position

The Chemist III position, 37020312, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, Nutrients section, in Tallahassee. The incumbent works as a Senior Chemist and will be responsible for the analysis of environmental samples for nutrients, inorganic anions, and other related compounds as well as reviewing analytical reports on the test level. This work is critical for the assessment of water quality and restoration projects for the State of Florida.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques of chemical research, analysis, or testing.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques, and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of data collection methods.
  • Skill in the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment.
  • Ability to collect, record, and analyze scientific data relating to chemistry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • At least 6 years of verifiable related experience in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences.
  • Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences may be used as an alternative for the required 6 years of experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of environmental samples for nutrients, inorganic anions, and other related compounds.
  • Reviewing analytical reports on the test level.
  • Conducting chemical research, tests, and analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
  • Performing quantitative analysis of scientific data.
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments.
  • Keeping accurate research records.
  • Utilizing problem-solving techniques.
  • Understanding and applying applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the science of chemistry.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Performing repetitive movements.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 lb. weights for short distances.
