About The Position

Dentsply Sirona's Innovation Center, R&D Department, is looking for someone to join our team as a Chemist II. In this position you will support the development and commercialization of new and innovative dental products as well as the improvement of existing products. Associates in this role conduct experiments, formulate new chemical compounds, and determine mechanical, chemical and physical properties of prototypes / products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-4 years related experience and/or training.
  • Must be able to read and understand general business correspondence, general chemical / technical procedures, such as ISO and American Dental Association specifications.
  • Must be able to accurately communicate results and information both verbally and in writing to supervisor and peers within the R&D Department as well as external Dentsply departments, such as QA and Technology Transfer Department.
  • Must demonstrate basic math and algebra skills.
  • Must have understanding of basic statistical functions such as but not limited to mean and standard deviation.
  • Must be able to understand detailed instructions on complex tasks, set up experiment and collect data as well as compile data into easily interpretable tables.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior hands-on experience with liquid chromatography and scanning electronic microscope highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support product development led by senior staff.
  • Conduct mechanical, chemical, and physical property testing, and possibly biocompatibility testing of dental materials to generate documentation to support and substantiate new products and / or process improvements.
  • Formulate chemical compositions / compounds. Conduct research of organic and inorganic substances including experimentation, data compiling, statistical analysis, and documentation. Maintain concise and accurate records of activities in laboratory notebooks.
  • Provide verbal and written reports of activities to senior chemist / scientist. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. May be called upon to communicate results to departments outside R&D, such as, Quality Assurance, Technology Transfer, and Engineering.
  • Conduct literature / web-based searches with guidance of supervisor to assist in designing experiments, developing test methods, and sourcing experimental materials.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of dental removable laboratory technologies, materials, and terminologies so he / she can comprehend the reasons behind the product development approach.
  • Responsible for completing all necessary training on pertinent Global, Divisional and Departmental procedures and maintaining a Training Log documenting successful completion of each procedure.
  • Apply what was learned during training to ensure quality products are produced, and lab safety and chemical hygiene standards are upheld.
  • Work practices and procedures meet Dentsply Sirona’s Standard Operating Procedures for design, commercialization, and manufacture of medical devices.
  • May be involved in training other R&D associates as well as associates from external departments such as QA to use new techniques or processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
