About The Position

This position involves performing various chemist job functions under direct or general supervision. Responsibilities include planning and directing analytical chemistry laboratories, performing chemical and physical analyses, and developing long-range plans for analyses. Specific duties may involve analyzing samples for organic, inorganic, and radiochemical content, identifying and quantifying components in soil, water, air, and organic samples, and testing potentially hazardous substances. The role requires ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data, preparing test solutions, and providing technical support. Safety in accordance with approved policies and regulations is paramount, with active participation in Safety Work Groups expected. Chemist III may also manage the development of new technology, assist with instrument maintenance and research projects, and conduct quality control tests, performing duties of moderate complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic chemical analysis samples in various matrices for organic, inorganic, and/or radiochemical content
  • Performs basic chemical, physical, and biological analyses to isolate, identify, and quantify components of soil, water, air, organic and other samples that may be a potential hazard in the workplace or to the community
  • Assists with analysis and tests potentially hazardous substances to identify their properties and characteristics, as they may affect team members or the general environment, or for product specification.
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring accuracy and completeness of all data and work produced.
  • Prepares test solutions, compounds or reagents according to detailed instructions and established processes and procedures
  • Provides assigned technical or functional support to team members
  • Performs duties of general/routine complexity in nature (Chemist I/II)
  • Perform duties moderately complex in nature (Chemist III)
  • Other job related duties as assigned
  • Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner
  • Actively participates in Safety Work Groups
  • Manages the development of new technology for chemical analyses for solving potential problems (Chemist III)
  • Assists with maintenance of laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions as needed (Chemist III)
  • Assists with research projects, interpreting test results or developing nonstandard tests (Chemist III)
  • Assists with compiling and analysis of test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency or to diagnose malfunctions (Chemist III)
  • Conducts quality control tests (Chemist III)
