About The Position

The chemical technician, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent, performs chemical applications on golf course properties and fertilizes tees, greens and fairways. Applies potentially hazardous substances, and must abide by all safe operating practices all the while utilizing proper personal protective equipment. Related work and manual labor may be assigned as needed for golf course maintenance purposes and workload.

Requirements

  • Completed training requirements as demanded by tribal and federal governments, including those required by the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
  • Complete knowledge of chemical application equipment.
  • Knowledge in the safe mechanical operation and calibration of mechanically pressurized spray equipment, hand-operated rotary spreaders, hand-operated spray equipment, hand-operated drop spreaders, utility tractors & PTO driven spreaders.
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation and cold starting of gasoline/diesel engines.
  • Knowledge of the safe mechanical operation of trucks and other motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of maintenance tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Valid California Driver’s license.
  • Must have QAL or QAC Certification.
  • Must Obtain OSHA 10 Certification Through Rolling Hills Casino.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems and situations reasonably.
  • Background clearance through the Paskenta Gaming Commission.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • American Red Cross first-aid training certificate.
  • Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Ability to safely work under the restrictions of a cartridge respirator, or other suitable protective breathing apparatus.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and/or occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Reading, understanding and keeping current with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), provided training materials, and any/all safety bulletins.
  • Compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the golf course Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent.
  • Performing routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
  • Maintaining chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with tribal and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
  • Maintaining gasoline/diesel, oil and other equipment fluid levels daily; reports equipment problems and failures to equipment supervisor immediately.
  • Performing basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the assistant superintendent or superintendent; and returns equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility.
  • Maintaining and repairing the CARBTROL equipment wash recycle system.
  • Organizing, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining a safe chemical storage and mixing area.
  • May be asked to participate in course set-up and replace/move tee markers.
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
  • Supervising/directing other applicators or chemical handlers in proper safety, contamination risks and on the job instructions/training.
