Chemical R&D Engineer

Mainstream Engineering•Rockledge, FL
•$108 - $140

About The Position

Mainstream Engineering Corporation is seeking a hands-on R&D chemical engineer or chemist to contribute to clean-tech research, including thermochemical biofuel production, advanced water recycling, adsorption technology (VSA/PSA), composite materials, and chemicals processing. Applicants at all degree levels are considered, with relevant experience in one or more technical areas. The role may include rotations on product development teams working on new chemical-related HVAC/R products. The company seeks innovative, self-motivated problem solvers who can drive technical milestones independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • 0–2+ years of work experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, required due to U.S. Government ITAR restrictions.
  • GPA greater than 3.3 at all degree levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in a hands-on laboratory or pilot-plant setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a maker mindset for building custom apparatus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and assembling bench-scale and pilot-scale systems; high-pressure/high-temperature reactor experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with water purification technologies such as reverse osmosis, filtration, or desalination, and with gas-phase separations.
  • Experience with electroplating, 3D printing, or composite material synthesis.
  • Proficiency with chemical characterization techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography, TGA, DSC, FTIR, and UV spectroscopy, as well as wet-lab instrumentation.
  • Experience with LabVIEW programming, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electronic systems assembly, and P&ID/PFD design.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to clean-tech research and development across areas such as thermochemical biofuel production, advanced water recycling, adsorption technology, composite materials, and chemicals processing.
  • Design and assemble bench-scale and pilot-scale systems.
  • Work with water purification technologies and gas-phase separations.
  • Perform or support advanced fabrication, including electroplating, 3D printing, or composite material synthesis.
  • Conduct chemical characterization using analytical techniques and wet-lab instrumentation.
  • Support systems engineering activities, including programming, electronic systems assembly, and P&ID/PFD design.
  • Potentially rotate on product development teams for new chemical-related HVAC/R products.
  • Drive technical milestones independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
