About The Position

This is an entry-level Chemical Operator I position, defined as having less than 2 years of experience in the Chemical Operations department and trained in fewer than 2 manufacturing areas. Opportunities are available on the 2nd and 3rd shifts, with a starting pay of $24 per hour. Associates in this role are engaged in mixing or polymerization operations and perform essential job functions related to production tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous production experience is highly desirable (preferably in web handling, such as paper or fabric manufacturing, printing, coating, etc.).
  • Conform to Guiding Principles, Company Policies, Quality Systems, ISO, OSHA, etc.
  • Use procedures and skills requiring considerable training to carry out assignments.
  • Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions (e.g., working around moving parts, machines, irritant chemicals).
  • May be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, uniforms, hairnets, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, shields, etc.
  • Physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
  • Recurring lifting of moderately heavy items (objects 50-100 pounds with lift assist).
  • Requires common physical characteristics and abilities, such as above-average agility and dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety regulations including grounding, bonding, nitrogen inerting, use of PPE, and appropriate use of exhaust vents.
  • Perform a variety of production tasks such as setting up, adjusting, and operating equipment, observing for proper functioning, and inspecting/testing products.
  • Add ingredients requiring specific measurements, addition, and mixing techniques as per procedures and batch records.
  • Perform visual inspection of all materials used and produced.
  • Operate various support equipment including mixers, balances, pumps, mills, granulators, timers, and controllers.
  • Accurately perform work assignments and computer transactions for inventory adjustments.
  • Accurately perform calculations using various units of measure.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment following departmental 6S requirements, and report unsafe practices, conditions, or acts.
  • Achieve quality and throughput goals.
  • Perform work according to SPAR’s, WI’s, and verbal instructions, seeking assistance for unresolved problems.
  • Effectively communicate with other associates, lead operators, and supervisors, relaying information to the next shift and assisting colleagues.
  • Complete required verifications and documentation accurately and neatly.
  • Participate in training and assist with training where applicable.
  • Participate in problem-solving and take initiative to make changes through the UCM and change control process.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the development of new products, processes, and equipment.
  • Follow all applicable waste handling procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
