About The Position

Cooper River Partners (CRP) is seeking a Chemical Operator for its Liquid Sodium Silicate (LSS) department. This role is part of a two-person team, working alongside a batch operator and field operator, and is responsible for the safety, production, maintenance, and equipment operations within the department. The Chemical Operator will be involved in cleaning and basic maintenance of various production systems and equipment, monitoring and operating chemical production systems, and collaborating with maintenance personnel, contractors, and supervisors. Requirements

  • Basic understanding of mechanical processes, process flows, and electrical circuits.

  • Familiarity with regulations and safety requirements in an industrial setting.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2 years of experience with industrial or commercial maintenance or operations is required.
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s degree and/or certificate in industrial work skills such as industrial maintenance, automated technology, welding, etc. is preferred.
  • 5 years of chemical production operations and certification in forklift or other heavy equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works on a team of two: a batch operator and a field operator; which regularly interacts with maintenance workers, contract employees, technical and professional employees, and department supervisors.
  • Ensures all equipment is well-maintained and runs safely and efficiently.
  • Monitors the operation of systems and equipment, records data, adjusts process controls as required; and, identifies, reports, and tracks maintenance needs through the work order process.
  • Completes repeated process tasks such as cleaning filters, charging vessels, and transferring product.
  • Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly manner and implements continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance and appearance.
  • Monitors, directs, and manages daily personnel workflows within the plan, including issuing work permits and coordinating tasks with maintenance teams, mechanics, and external contractors to ensure compliance with operational procedures and maintain plant safety.
  • Operates front-end loader for raw materials handling and forklift for process waste disposal.
  • Manipulates plant parameters and controls equipment operation using a distributed control system.
  • Performs equipment isolation and energy control (de-energization) using lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and issues safe work permits to ensure maintenance activities are conducted safely and in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists the supervisor with documenting and training requirements, SOPs, preventative maintenance programs, and benchmarking activities.
  • Utilizes chemical testing equipment to ensure product quality is within specification.
  • Conducts routine safety, environmental, housekeeping, and regulatory compliance inspections; documents findings/activities; and ensures preventative maintenance programs are maintained.
  • Participates in safety audits and site safety process activities to ensure regulations and standards are met or exceeded, including job safety analyses (JSAs).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
