About The Position

GFL's Napanee site is looking for a Chemical Operator to join Team Green! This role involves various responsibilities related to the inventory, packing, preparation, and processing of chemical wastes, ensuring safe operations and compliance with acceptance protocols. The Chemical Operator will also be responsible for customer service, completing necessary paperwork, and conducting job hazard risk assessments. Additionally, the role requires participation in Household Hazardous Waste collection events and preparing manifest documents for transport.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office suites, emails.
  • Must be able to work day shift.
  • Able to work weekend shifts as needed.
  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
  • Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety).
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist.
  • Valid G class Driver’s license, with a clean driver abstract.
  • Must be able to pass security clearances for government contracts.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset.
  • Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience using various forklifts.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory, pack, and remove chemical wastes from clients' sites.
  • Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
  • Receive all client waste, including bulk liquids/solids and containerized waste.
  • Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
  • Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner.
  • Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
  • Ensure safe operation and procedures are always followed.
  • Complete paperwork properly and ensure it is submitted.
  • Complete job hazard risk assessments.
  • Ensure superior customer service is provided.
  • Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents.
  • Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify and separate waste.
  • Prepare necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to Stevenage facility.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
