About The Position

Monument Chemical, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, serves the specialty chemicals industry by producing a variety of solvents, intermediates, specialty fuels, and other specialty products, while also offering industry-leading Custom Manufacturing services. The Chemical Loader is responsible for the safe handling, transfer, loading, and unloading of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and finished products. This position supports manufacturing operations by ensuring materials are transported and shipped safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and transportation regulations. The Chemical Loader is responsible for operating material handling equipment, completing shipping documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Additional tank farm operations such as gauging or sampling shipping tanks and testing them for leaks are also part of the role.

Requirements

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Process Technology degree or relevant chemical manufacturing experience
1 Year Experience in chemical manufacturing, material handling, shipping, logistics, or related industrial operations preferred
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule and be on call, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Ability to compile, read, and compute, and interpret data
Basic mathematical skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to follow written procedures, safety requirements, and supervisor instructions.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a team environment.
Basic to Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft
Willingness and ability to participate in the facility emergency response team.
Able to pass the pre-employment test
Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with company environmental, health, and safety policies.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Able to obtain TWIC Card and pass background check
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, respiratory protection, safety glasses, chemical googles, face shield, gloves etc.

Responsibilities

Verify tank car, barge, or truck load numbers to ensure car placement accuracy based on written or verbal instructions.
Observe positions of cars passing loading spots into the correct positions at the appropriate times.
Operate specialized material handling equipment such as railroad tank car unloading equipment.
Monitor product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow while conducting tank to tank transfers.
Record operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers.
Check conditions and weights of vessels to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.
Operate industrial railcar mover.
Connect ground cables to carry off static electricity when loading and unloading tank trucks.
Seal outlet valves on tank cars, barges, and trucks.
Remove and replace tank car dome caps, or direct other workers in their removal and replacement.
Gauging tanks and/or reading meters, in order to verify contents, temperatures, and volumes of liquid loads.
Test vessels for leaks, damage, and defects, and repair or replace defective parts as necessary.
Unload railcars containing liquids by connecting hoses to outlet plugs and pumping compressed air into cars to force liquids into storage tanks.
Copy and attach load specifications to loaded tanks.
Start pumps and adjust valves or cables in order to regulate the flow of products to vessels, utilizing knowledge of loading procedures.
Obtain product samples and send to laboratory for quality testing.
