About The Position

This position is 12 Extended Days paid at the teacher's daily rate of pay. The Chemical Hygiene Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to chemical safety and compliance within the district.

  • Maintaining hazardous materials chemical inventory
  • Informing local fire departments about chemical levels
  • Serving as district safety contact
  • Conducting inspections for chemical storage compliance
  • Conducting or arranging sampling of chemicals
  • Managing hazardous communications program
  • Developing specific chemical standard operating procedures
  • Improving chemical hygiene plan and safety program
  • Verifying and improving OSHA compliance
  • Learning about federal, state and local regulations regarding chemical hygiene
  • Monitoring use and procurement of chemicals
  • Teaching lab safety
  • Providing regulatory information updates
  • Keeping training records
  • Administering training assessments
  • Preparing audit/inspection materials
  • Providing federally mandated fire extinguisher training opportunities
  • Providing/advising about safety equipment and PPE
  • Providing training materials to all schools in the district
  • Responding to questions regarding chemical hygiene and safety

Responsibilities

  • Provide training to staff members dealing with chemicals.
  • Assist principals, building chemical hygiene officers and other employees with implementation of safety procedures as stipulated in federal regulations.
  • Update/review the district Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Maintain training and inspection records for the district.
  • Maintain hazardous materials chemical inventory and inform local fire departments about the levels of these chemicals in schools.
  • Serve as the district safety contact.
  • Conduct inspections throughout schools for compliance of chemical storage.
  • Conduct or arrange sampling of chemicals.
  • Manage the hazardous communications program.
  • Develop specific chemical standard operating procedures.
  • Seek ways to improve the chemical hygiene plan and safety program.
  • Verify and improve OSHA compliance.
  • Learn about federal, state and local regulations regarding chemical hygiene.
