About The Position

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in the U.S. and around the world as part of a Field Operating Service (FOS) team, supported by technology experts from UOP’s Technical Service and Engineering Groups. FOS advisors are on-site prior, during, and after the initial start-up of UOP technologies. They help to insure that the technology and customer operators are ready for commissioning. Advisors are also involved in the start-up and test runs that demonstrate guarantees and are accountable for process, equipment, refining and petrochemical insight and assist customers in resolving engineering and operating issues. UOP advisors may remain at a site for a few days to several months before moving to the next assignment. For each start-up, advisors may work with a number of UOP-licensed processes and a variety of individuals within and outside of UOP. The experience gained from each assignment, and the subsequent interaction with other UOP employees, provide a solid background for assessing and solving problems encountered in each situation in various locations around the world. As advisors gain experience they have opportunities to advance to positions of increased accountability within the FOS organization. After the experience they’ve gained in FOS, engineers may choose to pursue positions in UOP’s Technical Service, Engineering, Equipment, Development, Manufacturing or Sales Support groups. Whichever career path is pursued, the experience gained in FOS is key to both personal development and the ability to contribute towards the continued success of our customers. Begin your career with 12 months at Honeywell UOP headquarters in Des Plaines, Illinois and/or at Honeywell UOP’s Riverside, Illinois facilities (both in the Chicago suburbs). In the Early Career Program, you will be exposed to a variety of functions including Research and Process Development, Process Engineering, Technical Service, and/ or Customer Training. You will gain experience in one or more of Honeywell UOP’s key refining and petrochemical technologies with a variety of activities that may include operating pilot plants, defining experiments, designing, troubleshooting and/ or servicing UOP process units, and performing other challenging assignments. Following these 12 months of training, Development Engineers will transfer to Field Operating Service (FOS). In FOS they will travel full time for a minimum of 3-5 years on assignments to multiple locations around the world supporting UOP customers in operating plants as a process engineer and advisor.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in Chemical Engineering or similar field.
Must have graduated or graduating from an accredited college or university between August 2026 and May 2027 and be available to begin full-time work between September 2026- July 2027
Must have obtained degree within 12 months of the date of hire
Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have asylum or refugee status in the U.S.
Candidates must be authorized to legally work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.

Responsibilities

Completion of a 12-month training program designed to develop the skills needed to be FOS technical advisor. This includes: Independent learning as well as structured classroom and hands-on training, Training focused on safety and Honeywell UOP technology, processes and procedures by which Honeywell UOP delivers technology to our customers, On the job training and value-added work in 2-3 rotational work assignments in Operations, Engineering, Process Transformation, and Technical Service, Soft skills training, including cultural awareness, conflict management, and communication courses
Transfer to Field Operating Service for a duration of at least 3-5 years. In Field Operating Service you will be on international and domestic assignments. Some of the accountabilities are: 2-6 months of field training, Following all required safety procedures and adhering to FOS, UOP and Honeywell policies, Setting and meeting customer expectations, Completing a detailed checkout of new UOP process units prior to initial start up in order to assure that the completed unit conforms to UOP specifications as contained in the Schedule A design package, Providing field technical assistance and field support for development activities in commercial units, Providing feedback including suggested improvements on UOP process designs, Troubleshooting and recommending innovative solutions, Coordinating commissioning activities, Transferring technology to customers operating and engineering staff, Reviewing emergency and normal operating procedures with customer personnel, Advising customer personnel on the establishment and maintenance of the various process variables necessary to achieve safe and efficient operations, Collecting and effective analysis of unit operating data and laboratory results, Monitoring and advising on process operating conditions, Advising customer personnel on the long term routine activities for effective operation of a UOP process unit, Advising customers on scheduling, procedures, normal operating variables and response to emergency situations and unscheduled process changes, under the guidance of the Chief Technical Advisor if available
