About The Position

The Engineer Co-Op position at Southern Ionics is designed to give bachelor’s degree seeking undergraduate students an opportunity to gain real world experience in areas such as process engineering, product development, research, project engineering, and process design. Working closely with the corporate engineering team, the work environment fosters training and development to ensure that the Co-Op gains valuable on-the-job knowledge and experience. Co-Ops will also learn about SII standards for Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance. The job will include some travel (up to 30%) with expenses covered by the company. Currently hiring for Project Engineering Co-Ops: A) Fall 2027 (alternating terms: Fall 2027, Summer 2028, Spring 2029) B) Spring 2028 (alternating terms: Spring 2028, Fall 2029, Summer 2029)

Requirements

Bachelor's degree seeking undergraduate students
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, and hearing protection).

Responsibilities

Design, assembly, testing and repair of pump skids for product delivery at customer locations.
Engineering, design, and assembly of bench scale, pilot scale, and full-scale testing of equipment and processes.
Data gathering, reporting and presentation of results.
Generation of process-flow diagrams, parts lists, and estimates.
Tabulation and reporting of operational efficiencies.
Gathering and analyzing statistical data of existing processes.
Collecting, analyzing, and reporting results on various process streams for environmental permit compliance.
Training and then performing selected jobs within the plant (including forklift and heavy equipment operation).
Implementing plant improvements such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) revisions, maintenance procedures, equipment change outs, etc.
Mentorship of junior Co-Ops
