About The Position

Storion Energy, a joint venture between Stryten Energy and Largo Inc., is seeking a Chemical Engineering Co-Op to join their product development team. This co-op position, starting in January 2027 and ending in July 2027, focuses on advancing Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFBs). Storion Energy is at the forefront of commercializing VRFBs in the United States, aiming to reduce costs and drive competition in the long-duration energy storage market. VRFB LDES products are crucial for addressing renewable energy intermittency, enhancing grid resiliency, and promoting a cleaner electricity grid. This is a full-time, in-person role located in Billerica, MA, with a pay rate of $25 per hour. The co-op will work under the direct supervision of Senior Engineers, contributing to various engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Working towards BS in Chemical Engineering or BA/BS in Chemistry
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have housing and transportation to Billerica, MA location.
  • Must be able and willing to work with battery electrolyte, which is acidic and requires wearing PPE (lab coat, gloves, safety glasses or goggles, and other job-specific PPE).
  • Ability to lift 30-pound boxes of parts.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Support sub-scale and full-scale product development efforts, including investigating VRFB cell and stack performance.
  • Determine electrolyte properties and performance.
  • Develop processing techniques and operations for eventual scale-up.
  • Work on product development, including concept development and testing.
  • Perform hands-on testing in the electrochemical lab and shop floor.
  • Operate scale, sub-scale, and full-scale equipment and machinery.
  • Conduct data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Contribute to chemical process design, control, and operation development.
  • Engage in kinetics determination and modeling.
  • Participate in unit operation design/equipment specification.
  • Assist with process documentation.
  • Implement statistical process control.
  • Develop test methods.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Conduct material compatibility testing.
