About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Chef Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day food service operations at the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre. This role includes planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating all aspects of the operation, while providing strong leadership and guidance to a team of food service associates. Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a comparable role within a fast-paced food service environment
  • Proficient in computerized systems, including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude with a strong customer service orientation
  • Flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • A culinary degree or diploma is preferred
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation, with flexibility to support front-line duties as needed for hotel guest meals, meetings and public catering functions such as weddings, conferences, etc.
  • Manage and direct a unionized team of up to 6 cooks and dishwashers
  • Implements and lead compliance on all Aramark operating standards, legislated standards, including company policies and procedures, Health and Safety Standards and Safe Food Handling
  • Develop operational forecasts for each period and analyze variances in costs and operational activities
  • Overseeing staff scheduling, monitor daily labour metrics
  • Manage inventory controls, including food, labour and direct costs
  • Support monthly inventory processes and reporting
  • Ensure delivery of high quality, courteous service to all customers
  • Collaborate with the team on recruitment, staffing, labour management, progressive discipline and training and HR policy administration
  • Assist in disciplinary action alongside the Executive Chef and Human Resources
  • Develops and motivates staff to attain proper standards of performance
  • Monitor equipment repair and maintenance
