About The Position

Riviera Villa and Riviera Club are two residential facilities that provide residential care for adults experiencing chronic and severe mental illness. They believe that the foundation of wellbeing is living happily within a structured, family-like home, eating healthy, enjoyable food, and developing healthy relationships. Their vision is the implementation of a comprehensive continuum of care. The Chef/Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals that meet the dietary needs of residents in accordance with California Title 22 regulations. The role involves maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and ensuring that meals contribute to the overall health and well-being of residents at Riviera Living. Cook/Chef are under general supervision of the Administrators and Program Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a cook/chef, preferably in a residential care or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs and nutrition for elderly or disabled individuals.
  • Food Handler’s Certification required
  • Must pass a background check and health screening as required by Title 22.
  • Strong culinary skills with the ability to prepare a wide range of meals from scratch.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with residents and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training or certification is preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meals in accordance with residents' dietary needs, preferences, and any special dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, low sodium, vegetarian).
  • Ensure all meals are well-balanced, nutritious, and comply with Title 22 regulations.
  • Create and follow standardized recipes to maintain consistency in taste, quality, and nutrition.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper storage, handling, and preparation of food.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures during storage, preparation, and serving.
  • Develop and update menus that offer variety and meet residents' nutritional needs.
  • Adjust menus to accommodate seasonal availability of ingredients and resident preferences.
  • Maintain an inventory of kitchen supplies, food items, and equipment.
  • Order and purchase food and supplies, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Inspect deliveries for quality and freshness and ensure proper storage.
  • Engage with residents to understand their food preferences and dietary needs.
  • Ensure meals are served in a timely, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Address and resolve any resident complaints or concerns related to food service.
