About The Position

The Cheese Clerk is responsible for preparing the Cheese department for store opening and closing. This includes receiving and unloading merchandise, checking its quality, count, and condition, and communicating any issues to management and the merchandising team. The role involves stocking, rotating, and facing products, ensuring attention to quality and expiration dates. Additionally, the clerk will build displays, arrange products for attractive presentations, and cut, wrap, weigh, price, and process Cheese department products. Responsibilities also include recording and handling shrink and damaged product, completing customer special orders, and maintaining accurate pricing and signage. The clerk must understand and comply with specific shift guidelines, maintain cleanliness and organization, and be aware of current ads, promotions, holidays, and events. A familiarity with department products and a willingness to learn are essential. The clerk must also notify management of any situations affecting customer service, safety, productivity, or security. Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail Cheese, Specialty / Gourmet and /or Culinary departments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Cheese department for store opening and closing.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition.
  • Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Stocks, rotates and faces products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Cuts, wraps, weighs, tares, prices, presents and processes Cheese department products.
  • Records and handles shrink, damaged and past-date product according to company policy.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Understands and complies with specific shift guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization and rotation of all areas, products and supplies.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays and events.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in department, with willingness to continue learning.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager on Duty (MOD) of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
