About The Position

This position involves coaching cheerleading for high school students during the fall season, which runs from August to November. The role encompasses both Head Coach and Assistant Coach responsibilities, focusing on athlete development, sportsmanship, and program management. The coaching staff is expected to work cooperatively with the athletic director and principal to ensure a well-balanced athletic program and maintain high academic standards for student athletes.

Requirements

Coaching experience or participation in the sport on high school or college levels.
Completion of CPR and First Aid training or enrollment in a current CPR and First Aid training course.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
Virginia Teaching License candidate or a full-time classified employee for Loudoun County Public Schools.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes.
Assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
Direct, supervise, and evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.
Work cooperatively with the athletic director to assure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
Work cooperatively with other head athletic coaches to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
Foster an appreciation for the values of athletics, a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community.
Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity athletic team and lead, supervise, and assist assistant coaches.
Act as a positive influence on the behavior of the athletic staff and teams.
Be present and personally direct the team at all varsity contests and as many junior varsity and freshmen contests as possible.
Supervise athletes at invitational meets or post-season competition.
Advise the athletic director on the preparation of schedules for the sport.
Advise the athletic director in the selection and performance evaluations of officials.
Recommend to the athletic director the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed, and provide for inventory and care of equipment.
Advise the athletic director of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.
Assist the athletic director to ensure lists of eligible players are prepared and maintained.
Recommend to the athletic director and/or principal the removal of athletes from teams when regulations are not met.
Ensure all athletes have passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
Organize a system for encouraging students to try out for the team and develop/recruit support staff (equipment managers, score keepers, etc.).
Collect and keep on file records, statistics, news items, and photographs for the athletic teams.
Recommend students who qualify for varsity letters or junior varsity/freshman certificates.
Recommend prospective coaches to the athletic director.
Observe sub-varsity practices and games.
Perform other duties related to the position of head athletic coach as requested.
Work cooperatively with the head athletic coach to operate a well-structured program (Assistant Coach).
Work cooperatively with the athletic department (Assistant Coach).
Attend all staff meetings prescribed by the head athletic coach during the season (Assistant Coach).
Carry out specific duties designated by the head athletic coach (Assistant Coach).
Recommend equipment and supplies needed for the implementation of a sports program (Assistant Coach).
Recommend suggested disciplinary actions regarding players violating training rules and procedures (Assistant Coach).
Foster among the athletes a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, personal pride, and pride for their school and community (Assistant Coach).
Perform other duties related to the position of assistant athletic coach as requested (Assistant Coach).
