This is a three month contract position where the Chassis Inspector / Maintenance & Repair Inspector will supervise third-party M&R Vendors, ensuring all safety rules are utilized and equipment repairs are performed to protect the integrity of the equipment. The role involves performing pre- and post-repair inspections, authorizing repairs, and conducting timely audits to evaluate and control the quality of vendor work. The inspector will make decisions on behalf of TRAC to achieve the lowest total-cost options, assess the necessity and appropriateness of repairs, and manage the M&R budget by dictating repair expenses and tire quantities. Key responsibilities include determining if repairs are due to damage versus wear-and-tear, ensuring vendor accountability, communicating with vendors regarding gate inspection notations and yard handling procedures, and ensuring compliance with AAR and FMCSA rules, as well as TRAC repair procedures and approved parts. The role also involves reviewing take-off tire inventories, tracking tire usage, inspecting tires for failure causes, and submitting failures for warranty credit. Daily review of facility bad order/out-of-service inventories and addressing all chassis within the required timeframe is also crucial. The position requires the use of handheld and mobile technology for daily duties.
