About The Position

Prepare charts for the department ensuring that required information is assembled for quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data entry.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of recent related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve diagnostic reports, lab results, physician dictations, pathology reports, surgical reports, and discharge/hospital admission information from computer information systems.
  • Retrieve additional patient information from other hospitals, doctor’s offices, independent labs and healthcare facilities as required.
  • Collate all incoming information and ensure that reports are filed in the appropriate location within the correct patient chart.
  • Document chart deficiencies and communicate outstanding reports as required.
  • Perform chart reviews to determine required information for the following day’s visits.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
  • Participate in hospital training as required.
  • Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
