About The Position

Under general supervision, this role preps, scans, and validates all types of paper documents into an optical scanning system to obtain chart completion. The position involves scanning and validating all loose reports sent to the department. Responsibilities include analyzing medical records for deficiencies in chart documentation, handling release of information for continuity of care requests, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA guidelines to minimize hospital liability. The role also entails processing requests for government audits and specialized chart reviews (UVMC only), monitoring incomplete charts, and following up with physicians. Adherence to guidelines from JC, Conditions of Participation, and all federal and state regulations is required. The position may also involve performing other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School completion / GED
  • Completed a course in medical terminology or currently enrolled in a class.
  • 1 - 3 years of job-related experience.
  • Experience in a Medical Office setting.
  • Ability to read and write to review and maintain patient medical record charts.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work independently in a medical office setting.
  • Problem-solving abilities and basic analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to type accurately at acceptable levels of speed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, understand, interact, and respond to patients, physicians, and other personnel.
  • Basic analytical skills to determine work priorities, assist in problem resolution, and recommend methods of improving workflow.
