About The Position

The Charge Nurse position coordinates and evaluates the delivery of safe and effective patient care by communicating across departments and disciplines to assure implementation of this care. This role serves as a nursing resource for hospital departments and a liaison for patients, visitors, and between hospital departments and administration. The Charge Nurse will demonstrate professionalism at all times, meet regulatory and policy requirements, engage standards of practice, and hold team members accountable for safe, competent practice, quality care, and continual improvement.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in nursing required.
  • Must hold and maintain Wisconsin Registered Nursing license.
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP certification required or obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • 3+ years related work experience required.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
  • Excellent clinical skills and problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize effectively with staff, patients, and public.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with patients, co-workers, and supervisors is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • TNCC encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee communication related to the coordination of patient care across the facility.
  • Daily rounding in departments (Acute Care, Birthing Center, Cancer, Wound and Infusion, Emergency Department, and Surgery) to assess and communicate patient transfers between departments.
  • Oversees flow between above departments.
  • Leads in setting the tone for a professional work environment by mentoring and being a resource for questions/ interventions.
  • Answer staff questions and help with resources.
  • Assist Directors within time behavior expectations and then communicate with Department Director to ensure proper follow-up.
  • Assist staff in providing direct patient care, as needed and ensure staff is available to fill needs.
  • Retrieve items necessary for patient care that are not in a department or need to be retrieved from another department.
  • Assist with determining proper patient placement for patients being admitted to Acute Care.
  • Assist with after-hours Pharmacy needs.
  • Activation and management of Incident Command in a Mass Casualty Incident.
  • Assist with coordinating any staffing needs between departments.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
