About The Position

The Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising staff and the operation and overall flow of the unit on his/her designated shift, and is a role model for all staff. He/She is responsible for coordinating unit schedules and staff assignments and participating in the performance appraisal process. The Charge Nurse is responsible for ensuring staff meet the approved Standards of Practice, for managing assigned personnel and unit activities and for promoting cooperative working relationships with physicians and other health care providers. Provides patient care as needed. The Charge Nurse is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. He/She is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient populations served on the assigned units. He/She ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the unit's standard of care. Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement and revise the plan of care.

Requirements

  • Two years acute experience required.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • California RN license.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS is required within 3 months of hire/transfer.
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale Certification "A" required within 3 months of hire/transfer for those working at FPH.
  • Annual 1 hour of Stroke Education required for those working at QVH.

  • Attends at least one leadership seminar each year.
