About The Position

Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital is seeking a skilled Charge Nurse to be a part of a dedicated team providing behavioral health care to Adults. The Charge RN in Adult Psychiatry provides clinical leadership, oversight, and coordination of nursing care on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
  • BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire
  • Minimum One year of nursing experience REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing staff, mental health technicians, and support personnel during assigned shifts.
  • Assigns patient care responsibilities based on acuity, staff competency, and unit needs.
  • Provides real‑time clinical guidance, de‑escalation support, and decision‑making in complex or emergent situations.
  • Ensures adherence to evidence‑based psychiatric nursing practices, safety protocols, and trauma‑informed care principles.
  • Conducts and oversees comprehensive nursing assessments, including suicide risk, violence risk, and medical/psychiatric status.
  • Monitors patient acuity and milieu dynamics, adjusting staffing or interventions as needed.
  • Leads or assists with crisis intervention, behavioral emergencies, and restraint/seclusion procedures in accordance with policy.
  • Ensures accurate medication administration, documentation, and monitoring for therapeutic response and side effects.
  • Facilitates daily shift huddles, handoff reports, and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other team members to support individualized treatment plans.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for patient families, ancillary departments, and leadership during the shift.
  • Monitors unit workflow, bed management, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards.
  • Identifies and escalates staffing, safety, or operational concerns to nursing leadership.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and staff development activities.
