The Charge Nurse has twelve-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and the effect on patient care in the department. This position is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift and is responsible and accountable for directing and facilitating the flow of patient care activities of the department/area. This position provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
