About The Position

Mennonite Friendship Communities is a senior living community sponsored by congregations from the Anabaptist/Mennonite tradition of faith in the greater South Hutchinson area. The Charge Nurse is responsible for performing periodic and acute physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional assessments of resident condition and implements appropriate actions. They also supervise staff working in designated neighborhoods.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Kansas.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Six months of related experience is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm, courtesy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well with others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to attend work regularly and on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident and employee information.
  • Adheres to Manor personal appearance guidelines as well as any department dress code.
  • Attends and participates in in-services and department meetings.
  • Respects and upholds resident’s rights.
  • Complies with safety policies and reports safety hazards and corrects them immediately.
  • Respects supervisors and coworkers.
  • Assists in developing creative and innovative ideas to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Adherence to the Guiding Principle and Operational Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform periodic and acute physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional assessments of resident condition and implement appropriate actions.
  • Supervise staff working in designated neighborhoods.
  • Have knowledge of each resident's diagnosis and current condition in the Health Care unit.
  • Respond to emergency calls throughout the Manor campus as necessary.
  • Make daily rounds on unit's residents.
  • Carry pager and answer call lights and resident alarms promptly.
  • Participate in actual care of residents as necessary.
  • Make assessments and initiate solutions to problems.
  • Assist in the coordination of laboratory work, x-ray work, and physician's appointments as ordered by physician.
  • May make rounds with physicians.
  • Oversee dining room routine.
  • Assess and seek treatment for employees injured at work, ensuring that all proper paperwork has been completed.
  • Assist in the development of a plan of individualized care for each resident.
  • Assure that each resident's plan of care is implemented, evaluated, and up to date.
  • Ensure direct care staff is informed of residents’ plan of care.
  • Attend resident's care plan meetings as able and document quarterly progress.
  • Assist in completing designated section of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) assessment for each resident in a timely manner as assigned.
  • Assure that adequate documentation is completed on admissions, dismissals, transfers, medication reviews, monthly summaries, discharge summaries, medication and treatment orders, and physician orders.
  • Notify physicians, Campus Pastor, Social Work or Life Enhancement Coordinators, and/or family as necessary based on resident's condition/desires.
  • Initiate Resident Change Form and report status changes and emergencies to Director(s) of Nursing or designee and front office.
  • Identify education needs of residents or family and provide necessary teaching and complete the documentation as appropriate.
  • Refer all incident reports and any skin issues/wounds to Unit Managers.
  • Cooperate with ancillary departments, i.e., rehabilitation, therapies, social services, activities, dietary, beauty shop, and maintenance in providing optimum level of care for the resident.
  • Initiate environmental changes that are needed (change of room arrangement, additional cleaning, etc.).
  • Use gait belts and/or mechanical lifts as appropriate and in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of CMAs and CNAs in the care of residents and provide knowledge of staff performance as needed to assist others in completing performance evaluations of direct care staff.
  • Evaluate assigned CNAs & CMAs at the 90-day and annual evaluation periods.
  • Attend monthly meetings for lead charge nurses.
  • Create an atmosphere of team building and working together.
  • Assess daily assignments and make appropriate changes.
  • Inform supervisor of staffing problems or concerns.
  • Supervise the documentation of treatments of medications ordered on each resident and assure that needed supplies are available.
  • Responsible for seeing that direct care is provided in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
