About The Position

Under general direction, and in accordance with the State of California Practice Nurse Act, plans, organizes, and supervises nursing staff; manages, reports on, and provides resources for direct patient care in major inpatient units and outpatient units as directed; and to perform related work as required. This class reports directly to a senior level hospital management staff member. Week-end rotation is required.

Requirements

  • Possession of Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Adequate experience to demonstrate critical thinking with organizational skills in performing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • Knowledge of nursing processes and its application to patient care.
  • Knowledge of teaching, coaching and mentoring processes.
  • Knowledge of licensure, accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of personnel scheduling, group dynamics, teambuilding and conflict management, problem solving and management techniques.
  • Knowledge of hospital established policies, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and Nursing Practice Act of the State of California.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises nursing staff.
  • Manages, reports on, and provides resources for direct patient care in major inpatient units and outpatient units as directed.
  • Learns, follows, and directs compliance with policies and procedures and develops and directs compliance with unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of care/practice.
  • Participates in the evaluation process and demonstrates ability to identify behaviors.
  • Completes and maintains reports and clinical records.
  • Monitors critical practice indicators.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, and guides the implementation of action plans.
  • Sets, communicates, and monitors performance standards and expectations.
  • Teaches, coaches, and mentors skillfully.
  • Manages time effectively; makes sound decisions using problem-solving skills.
  • Uses productive group dynamics to achieve teamwork.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manages emergency or crisis situations; required judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
  • Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
